Amir Jangoo struck a composed 114 off 77 balls — his second ODI century — as West Indies posted a record 405/7 against India in the 2nd ODI at Guwahati on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. The total is the highest ODI score ever recorded by the West Indies, an innings that featured an extraordinary three individual centuries.

Jangoo's Match-Winning Innings

Walking in at number four after John Campbell was dismissed for 101, Jangoo wasted no time. He moved from 59 off 54 balls to his century in just 70 balls, eventually finishing with 114 off 77, laced with 13 fours and 3 sixes, before being caught at backward point off Ravindra Jadeja. His stand of 182 runs with captain Shai Hope, who contributed 104 off 94 balls, proved the decisive partnership of the innings.

The Foundation: Nine Years of First-Class Cricket

'For me it's just hard work. There's a lot of lessons and failures in between there. As I said, I played nine years of first-class cricket before starting international cricket. So the foundation was there. So for me it was all about learning,' Jangoo said in a mid-innings chat with the broadcasters.

The left-hander added that the key for him now is absorbing lessons quickly. 'It's all about learning as fast as possible. So it's all about enjoying international cricket now and just going out there and play free,' he said. Notably, Jangoo's route to international cricket — nearly a decade in domestic obscurity — makes his hundred at this stage all the more significant.

Handling Kuldeep Yadav and the Spin Challenge

Jangoo was particularly effective against Kuldeep Yadav, cutting him and fellow spinners Naman Dhir and Jadeja repeatedly through the off side. When asked about comparisons to the legendary Brian Lara for his spin play, Jangoo acknowledged the compliment with measured humility. 'To be fair, that's a very big comparison. But for me, I'm a pretty good player of spin, and the team believes in my ability,' he said.

He credited team preparation for his approach. 'We had our team discussions, and for me it was all about batting most of him and trying to bat him positively as well. The wicket was a really good one as well and for me it was all about trying to play as straight as possible, trying to rotate strike and get that boundary whenever it was needed,' Jangoo explained.

A Historic Team Effort

The innings was built on collective excellence. Campbell's 101 provided a flying start, before Jangoo and Hope's 182-run partnership shifted the game decisively. 'It's an amazing feeling. The boys went out there today with our game plan. We know where we went wrong in the first game, and luckily enough we executed. Credit has to go to John for that amazing start, and also Shai, who carried us on throughout the innings as well,' said Jangoo.

This comes after West Indies' defeat in the first ODI, making the correction — and the scale of it — particularly striking. With India now facing a daunting chase of 406, the series is finely poised heading into its final stages.
