New Delhi, June 6 (NationPress) South Africa’s left-arm fast-bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen expressed his intention to gain insights from the renowned England bowler Stuart Broad regarding his strategies for dismissing specific batters ahead of the upcoming World Test Championship Final against Australia, scheduled for June 11 at Lord’s.
Broad will join the South African team as a consultant on Monday, enhancing the preparations of the squad led by Temba Bavuma for the crucial WTC final against the defending champions, Australia, captained by Pat Cummins. The former fast bowler ranks fifth among the most successful Test bowlers, boasting an impressive total of 604 wickets.
“He has a wealth of experience playing against Australia at Lord’s. I am keen to tap into his knowledge about their strategies in the past or how he managed to get certain batters out. It’s important to ask these questions, but understanding that what worked for him might not necessarily work for me is crucial,” Jansen stated.
“You can dismiss a batsman with a delivery you never intended to bowl. While gathering information is beneficial, once you’re on the field, you have to adapt and execute your plans, all while hoping for a successful outcome,” Jansen added, as reported by ICC on Friday.
Jansen recently completed a successful IPL season with Punjab Kings, who finished as runners-up in the tournament. He worked closely with head coach Ricky Ponting, who instilled significant confidence in him regarding his bowling abilities during IPL 2025.
“Before returning from India, Ponting wished me well, humorously adding that he hoped I would lose. His mentorship has been invaluable, particularly from a psychological perspective. He consistently maintains a positive outlook, focusing on the positives rather than the negatives,” Jansen reflected.
“This mindset is part of what makes him a legend in the sport; he emphasizes the potential for success rather than the risks of failure. Personally, in the IPL, his guidance has been transformative, reminding me of the possibilities ahead rather than dwelling on what may not happen,” he concluded.
