Gurugram, March 11 (NationPress) Chandigarh’s Rajiv Kumar Jatiwal showcased an incredible performance by scoring a remarkable seven-under 65, establishing himself at the top of the leaderboard in the opening round of the PGTI NexGen 2025 season-opener at the Golden Greens Golf & Polo Club on Tuesday.
The experienced Jatiwal achieved an eagle and five birdies en route to his impressive 65 in this Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) event, which features players ranked below 60 in the previous season’s Order of Merit.
In second place was Chandarjeet Yadav from Chandimandir, Haryana, who recorded a four-under 68 during the first day of this INR 20 lakh tournament.
Jatiwal, who claimed his first title during his professional debut back in 1998, made significant progress early in his round, securing five birdies between the first and tenth holes, followed by an eagle on the eleventh.
The 48-year-old’s eagle was a result of a successful 10-foot putt. Demonstrating skill across all facets of his game, Jatiwal converted two long birdie putts and positioned his wedge shots within four feet for two additional birdies. He almost achieved a hole-in-one on the eighth hole, where he also scored a birdie.
Jatiwal expressed, “I’m genuinely satisfied with this performance, especially considering the challenging course conditions with the winds picking up during my play. I couldn’t have hoped for a better start. It’s crucial for me to maintain this momentum. My solid beginning to the 2025 season on the main tour has provided me with the confidence I need this week.”
The PGTI NexGen consists of a series of three events, each with a prize pool of Rs 20 lakh. The NexGen Gurugram is the inaugural event, followed by the PGTI NEXGEN Kapurthala, set to take place from March 18 to 20 at the RCF Golf Club in Kapurthala.
The final event of the season, the Phillaur Open, will occur from March 25 to 27 at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club in Phillaur.
Players who ranked among the top 60 in the 2024 PGTI Order of Merit are ineligible to participate in the NexGen Tour for 2025. The winner of this year’s NexGen Order of Merit will gain an exemption for the main tour (PGTI) in the 2026 season.
