New Delhi, Aug 10 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance women's participation in sports, the Khelo India ASMITA Football League 2025-26 was officially launched by Raksha Nikhil Khadse, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, at the Godavari Engineering College Ground in Jalgaon, Maharashtra. This league, a remarkable embodiment of affirmative action, focuses on discovering and developing young female talent from various communities within the region.

The all-day event kicked off with a grand opening ceremony, uniting aspiring footballers aged 13 and below. While addressing the attendees, Raksha Khadse emphasized that this is a platform “where passion transforms into performance,” as the league aims to reveal the untapped potential within women’s sports. The competition is crafted to offer a stage for everyone, “from novice players to hidden champions.”

She further highlighted the league’s larger vision, stating, “This league is not merely about sports; it’s about breaking barriers. It represents a significant stride towards affirmative action, spotlighting aspiring women athletes, particularly those from tribal and minority communities.” This initiative reflects the government’s philosophy of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

The Khelo India ASMITA league is integral to the ‘Khelo Bharat Niti’, advocating for sports as a means of nation-building and empowering women. It serves as a dedicated platform for young girls, addressing historical disparities and opening new avenues. This initiative alters the narrative surrounding women in sports, helping them confront stereotypes and emerge as new role models. The league’s emphasis on grassroots talent aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of positioning India as a global sporting powerhouse where women play a pivotal role and find their identity through sports.

The inauguration was attended by notable figures including Ketakitai Patil and Farukh Shaikh, Secretary of the Jalgaon District Football Association. Esteemed members from the college administration were also present, reflecting broad institutional support. The event was conducted under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with backing from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the All India Football Federation (AIFF), and the Western India Football Association (WIFA).
