Leeds, Aug 15 (NationPress) Leeds United has officially confirmed the acquisition of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who joins the newly promoted team following his exit from Everton earlier this summer after his contract ended.
The England international has signed a contract lasting three years, ensuring his presence at Elland Road until 2028.
This forward brings a wealth of experience, having netted 57 goals in 239 Premier League games, consistently leading the attack in one of the most competitive leagues globally.
“We are very pleased that he will don a Leeds jersey from now on. He is undeniably a proven asset at the Premier League level. As a newly-promoted team, we aspire to recruit players who have excelled at the top but are still in their prime and on an upward trajectory in their careers. He fits all these criteria,” stated head coach Daniel Farke during a press conference.
Leeds’ latest summer signing has also participated in European competitions at the club level, starring in Everton’s 2016/17 Europa League campaign with nine appearances.
Calvert-Lewin returns to familiar terrain in Yorkshire, where his football journey commenced with his hometown club Sheffield United. He enjoyed successful loan spells away from Bramall Lane before moving to Merseyside.
He debuted in the top tier during a 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Goodison Park in 2016 and scored his first Premier League goal later that season in a 4-0 rout of Hull City.
The 28-year-old's most fruitful season came in 2020/21, where he contributed to 26 goals, leading to international acclaim with the Three Lions.
After impressing on the international stage with early goals, Calvert-Lewin was called up by Sir Gareth Southgate for the memorable journey to the UEFA Euro 2020 final.
In younger international squads, Calvert-Lewin played a pivotal role in the Under-20s World Cup victory in 2017, scoring the decisive goal in the final.
Last season, Calvert-Lewin appeared 26 times in the Premier League, aiding the Toffees to a mid-table finish.
