Wolverhampton, June 20 (NationPress) Wolves have secured their first signing of the summer in promising young forward Fer Lopez. The 21-year-old Spaniard has made a permanent move from Celta Vigo, where he began to shine last season in the first team.
Lopez, a versatile left-footed attacker capable of playing on the right or in a central role, has inked a five-year contract at Molineux. He joins fellow player Jorgen Strand Larsen in transitioning from Vigo to Wolverhampton.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for my career to compete in the Premier League, and I’m delighted. Vitor expressed his belief that I would be a great addition to the squad, and when a club like this shows interest, you don’t need to think twice. The team performed exceptionally well under Vitor, and I’m thrilled to be joining him,” said Lopez.
“Achieving seventh place in La Liga was incredible, and during my breakout year, I can’t fully express my feelings, as it was everything I had hoped for. Playing at the Bernabeu twice, along with matches against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, provided me with the best atmospheres in Spain. Now, I aim to recreate that in England,” Lopez added.
The young talent, who recently turned 21, is a product of the Celta Vigo youth academy. After impressive performances for Gran Pena and Celta B, he was offered his chance in the first team after renewing his contract last summer.
Lopez made his senior debut last October in a 5-1 victory in the Copa Del Rey against UD San Pedro. He followed this with his initial goals in the subsequent round against Salamanca CF, netting a brace in another commanding win.
The young player soon made his La Liga debut just three days later against RCD Mallorca and, following a minor injury, participated in nearly every league match since February.
La Liga goals came for the Spaniard, including a decisive strike in the return match against Mallorca and the opening goal at home against Villarreal from close range.
With 20 senior appearances for Celta Vigo, Lopez now returns to the UK, where he previously spent time studying in Suffolk before heading back to Spain.
