Manchester, January 21 (NationPress) Manchester City has confirmed the acquisition of Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. The 19-year-old Brazilian youth international has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, which will see him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2029.
A centre-back and esteemed captain during his time in Palmeiras’ youth teams, Reis made his senior debut in June 2024. He contributed significantly to the squad as they finished as runners-up in the Brazilian Serie A.
Reis expressed that joining Manchester City is a ‘dream come true’. He is the second signing for City in the January transfer window, following the addition of Uzbek defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
“The size of Manchester City, its legacy, and its organization,” he said, reflecting on what he admires about the club. “In recent years, I have followed them closely. Every football-loving kid is certainly watching Manchester City on TV. When the opportunity arose, I knew this was the right place for me,” Reis remarked.
He has played 22 matches for his childhood club, including 18 in the league and two in the Copa Libertadores.
At just 19, Reis’s senior football journey is just starting. Having captained both Palmeiras and the Brazilian youth teams, he has always been recognized as a remarkable defensive talent and a natural leader.
His impressive physical attributes and commanding presence made him a sought-after player for the reigning champions. As he aims to enhance his game, Reis looks forward to developing under Pep Guardiola, becoming the type of defender that has been crucial to the club’s recent achievements.
Fellow Brazilians Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus, who also transferred from Palmeiras as teenagers, thrived at City under Guardiola, while Ederson and Savinho continue to be part of the squad.
