Lucknow, March 22 (NationPress) Strengthening the campaign against obesity, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya will participate in the nationwide initiative, ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ in Lucknow on Sunday (March 23). He will be accompanied by Governor of Uttar Pradesh Smt Anandiben Patel and Uttar Pradesh Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Girish Chandra Yadav.
Dr. Mandaviya is set to cycle for three kilometres starting from Marine Drive (Samajik Parivartan Sthal) to Samta Mulak Chauraha, then to 1090 Chauraha and back, leading over 400 cyclists while promoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of combating obesity and embracing a healthy, active lifestyle.
In another part of the country, Asian Games medalist Kishore Jena will be partaking in the cycling initiative at scenic Aksa Beach in Mumbai, while members of the Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) will join the movement in New Delhi.
To date, the national cycling initiative has been conducted at over 4200 locations with around 2 lakh participants. This movement also advocates for eco-friendly habits to reduce air pollution throughout the nation. The initiative spans multiple States & Union Territories, engaging cycling enthusiasts, athletes, coaches, and sports science specialists, among others.
Previously, the event has seen participation from Indian Army personnel, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and notable sports figures such as Lovlina Borgohain, Sangram Singh, Shanky Singh, Nitu Ghanghas, Saweety Boora, Rubina Francis (bronze medallist at the Paris Paralympics), and Simran Sharma (para world champion), along with celebrities like Rahul Bose, Amit Sial, and Gul Panag, among others.
The ‘Fit India Sundays on Cycle’ initiative is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), My Bikes, and MY Bharat. Events are simultaneously held across the nation at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), and Khelo India centres (KICs).
