New Delhi, April 15 (NationPress) Former New Zealand fast bowler Mitchell McClenaghan is optimistic that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) explosive batsman Nicholas Pooran is on the verge of a significant innings and has urged the left-handed player to shine in the forthcoming IPL 2026 matchup against the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Pooran's top score this season is only 19, and LSG currently occupies the seventh position in the standings. However, the favorable batting conditions at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium present an excellent chance for him to find his rhythm. “LSG boasts a robust batting lineup, with contributions from their openers, middle order, and lower order. Nevertheless, they will be challenged by the defending champions, who are brimming with confidence following their victory over MI.

“For LSG to succeed, Mitchell Marsh must deliver, as his power hitting at the top can put RCB under pressure right from the start. Nicholas Pooran has had a rocky start this season, but the compact dimensions of the ground in Bangalore should complement Pooran’s playing style. He is a pivotal player, and I anticipate him to rebound and make a significant impact,” McClenaghan remarked on Star Sports.

He further noted that the Chinnaswamy Stadium will pose a stern test for the LSG bowling lineup. “Thus, LSG must put in considerable effort to clinch this match. Their bowling attack looks promising, particularly Mohammed Shami and Prince Yadav. However, playing in Bangalore presents a unique challenge. The pitch is conducive for batting, and the boundaries are short, making it a true examination for their bowlers.”

The former cricketer, renowned for his time with Mumbai Indians, also praised Noor Ahmad, the wrist-spinner from Chennai Super Kings, for his impactful spell of 3-21 against KKR, leading the five-time champions to a 32-run victory.

“What I admire about Noor Ahmad is that once he gets a wicket, he typically follows it up with more. He never rests on just one wicket and consistently strives for improvement, creating challenges for the opposition batters.

“He bowled an unplayable leg-spin delivery to Cameron Green from around the wicket. The way that ball struck the stumps demonstrated Noor Ahmad's skill. It was an exceptional delivery. Against Rinku Singh, Noor was careful not to provide any room or width.

“He restricted Rinku’s ability to play freely, leading to a rash shot and his dismissal out of frustration. Once Noor Ahmad gains the upper hand, he tends to control the game effectively, as he did against KKR,” he elaborated.

McClenaghan also highlighted Anshul Kamboj, a seamer for CSK, whose adept death bowling was crucial in dewy conditions. “Anshul Kamboj's impressive performance showcased why he is highly regarded by CSK. His skillful execution of yorkers from round the wicket was remarkable.

“His precision was impeccable. In Chennai, the high humidity and dew challenge bowlers significantly, making it difficult to execute yorkers. However, Kamboj remained unaffected by the dew.

“He bowled with exceptional accuracy and earned two wickets as a result. If he continues to perform consistently, CSK will have a strong chance of progressing to the playoffs,” he concluded.
