Lucknow, April 12 (NationPress) The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Rishabh Pant, asserts that the key to overcoming his current batting challenges, which have seen him accumulate just 40 runs in the first six matches, lies in maximizing his time at the crease.

Acquired for a staggering Rs 27 crore, Pant's performance this season has been underwhelming, yet he showcased moments of his traditional batting style by scoring 21 runs off 18 balls, including four boundaries, during the match against Gujarat Titans on Saturday.

Just when it appeared that he was regaining his touch, Pant was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna, cutting short his innings. With Mitchell Marsh absent due to personal commitments, Pant took on the opening role alongside Aiden Markram.

“I feel like I am improving with each game. With Marsh unavailable, I was given a chance, and I believe that spending more time at the wicket will be beneficial as we progress in the tournament. Ultimately, it’s a team effort, and we must continue winning and putting our best foot forward,” Pant expressed during the post-match presentation at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Pant’s exit led to Nicholas Pooran, the current holder of the Orange Cap, joining the action, where he maintained his excellent form by scoring 61 runs off 34 balls, featuring seven sixes and one boundary, marking his fourth half-century in six matches.

Pant praised Pooran’s outstanding style of play, expressing his gratitude to have such a player in the squad. “We are certainly happy to have Nicholas Pooran in our team. You prefer having someone like him on your side rather than facing him. His current understanding of the game and the way he is batting is truly remarkable,” Pant added.

The six-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans propelled LSG from sixth to third position in the points table, with four wins out of six matches. Their next challenge will be against Chennai Super Kings, with the match scheduled at home on Monday.
