Middlesbrough, June 24 (NationPress) - The Middlesbrough Football Club, based in England, has officially named Rob Edwards as their new head coach. A celebrated Premier League promotion winner, he has signed a three-year contract and will be joined in the coaching staff by Adi Viveash and Harry Watling.
This decision comes in the wake of Michael Carrick's dismissal after a two-and-a-half-year tenure. Carrick, a former England and Manchester United midfielder, took the reins of the Championship team in October 2022, marking his first managerial role.
During his time, he guided the squad to a play-off finish in the 2022-23 season, but they have fallen short of the top six in the last two seasons.
Rob brings a rich background, having led Luton Town to the Premier League in his inaugural season with the club, followed by managing them in the top flight.
At 42 years of age, his managerial journey began at Forest Green Rovers, where he achieved the club's first-ever promotion to League One, later having a brief stint at Watford before securing a historic promotion for Luton in 2023.
"It’s a tremendous honor to be appointed head coach of this remarkable football club. I truly understand the significance of this role and what it means to the community. The fanbase is incredible," stated Rob Edwards.
"From the moment I engaged with the club, it felt right, and I was filled with enthusiasm. If I were to return to management, I wanted to be in a situation where success was attainable, and I believe we have a strong opportunity here.
"We have a fantastic owner who traditionally provides his coaches with the necessary support, time, and resources to succeed. I eagerly anticipate starting this new chapter," added Rob.
Adi brings extensive experience, having served as Coventry City’s assistant manager for seven years, which included two promotions, and spent nine years in Chelsea’s Academy.
Harry is another esteemed coach, having worked with teams like Chelsea, Millwall, West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers, and Rangers.
Rob began his coaching career at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he was the Under-18s and U21s coach. He also coached the England U20s and U16s.
As a player, Rob appeared in around 250 matches, starting his journey in the Premier League with Aston Villa. A former central defender for Wales, he made over 100 appearances for Wolves and captained Blackpool during their ascent to the Premier League.
