New Delhi, May 5 (NationPress) Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has received a death threat through email on Sunday, prompting the Cyber Crime Police Station in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh to register an FIR. The FIR, which was filed on Monday following directives from the Superintendent of Police (SP), reveals that the complaint was lodged on behalf of Shami by his brother Haseeb, identifying a certain Rajput Sindar as the individual behind the threatening email.

The FIR alleges that the sender demanded a ransom of Rs one crore from the cricketer, who is currently engaged in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad.

This FIR has been filed under several sections: Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023 Section 308(4), Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66d, and Section 66e of the same act. The police are actively pursuing the investigation.

In his nine matches for SRH in IPL 2025 so far, Shami has managed just six wickets at an average of 56.17. He had a stellar performance during India’s victorious Champions Trophy campaign, where he took nine wickets in five matches, including a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in the tournament opener held in Dubai.

Previously, Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir also received a death threat via email last month. “We have received information regarding an alleged threatening email linked to Gautam Gambhir. The investigation is underway. Gambhir is currently under protection by the Delhi Police, and we refrain from discussing specific security measures,” stated DCP (Central) V. Harsha Vardhan.

A complaint was lodged with the Delhi Police after Gambhir faced threats following a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in at least 26 fatalities and numerous injuries.

"As we discussed, please find the 'Threat Mails' sent to the email ID of Mr. Gautam Gambhir (Ex-MP), Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Please register the FIR accordingly and ensure the safety of the family," the Personal Secretary to Gambhir communicated via email to the Rajender Nagar SHO and DCP, Central.
