New Delhi, April 24 (NationPress) India men's cricket head coach and former BJP MP Gautam Gambhir has formally lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police after receiving death threats.
The threats emerged just a day after a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the loss of at least 26 lives and left numerous others injured.
In a communication, the Personal Secretary to Gambhir stated, "As we discussed, please find below the 'Threat Mails' received on the email ID of Mr. Gautam Gambhir (Ex-MP), Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Please register the F.I.R. accordingly and ensure the safety and security of his family." This was sent to the Rajender Nagar SHO and DCP central.
In response to the horrific incident, Gambhir expressed his condolences for the victims, declaring, "India will strike back".
"I am praying for the families of those who have died. Those responsible will face justice. India will retaliate," Gambhir shared on X.
The Pakistan-based terror group, The Resistance Front, which is linked to the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for this attack, which is considered one of the most devastating in the area in recent times.
This is not the first time Gambhir has faced death threats; he encountered similar threats in 2021, prompting him to seek assistance from the Delhi Police and enhancing security around his Rajender Nagar home.
Gambhir, who was elected as a Lok Sabha MP for East Delhi on a BJP ticket in 2019, decided to step back from politics ahead of the 2024 general elections.
Upon announcing his decision, Gambhir requested BJP President JP Nadda to relieve him of his political responsibilities so he could focus on his upcoming cricket commitments.
"I have asked Hon'ble Party President JP Nadda ji to relieve me of my political duties so I can concentrate on my cricket commitments. I sincerely thank Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi for the opportunity to serve the people. Jai Hind," Gambhir posted on X.
Having represented India at the international cricket level for 15 years, Gambhir retired from all forms of cricket in 2018.
Further updates are awaited.
