Bhubaneswar, April 21 (NationPress) As they gear up for their Round of 16 matchup against Chennaiyin FC in the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 on Wednesday, Mumbai City FC is determined to move past the 0-5 defeat they faced against Bengaluru FC during the ISL playoffs on March 29.

In a pre-match press conference, midfielder Brandon Fernandes shared his insights on the team's mentality going into the game.

“We are certainly not pleased with how our ISL season concluded. The ISL was a significant learning experience for us, and as a unit, we need to come together and focus on the Super Cup. It’s crucial for us to achieve a positive end to the season. We must let go of the past and concentrate on the upcoming matches,” Brandon stated to IANS when discussing the team's dialogue surrounding the loss to BFC.

After triumphing in the ISL trophy during the 2023-24 season, Mumbai's campaign was plagued by inconsistency and injuries. The team demonstrated solid defensive skills, conceding the third least goals in the league, yet their struggles in scoring saw them finish sixth in the league standings, barely earning a spot in the playoffs.

When asked if he thinks his team is better equipped for knockout football, head coach Petr Kratky commented, "This is a different competition. We analyze our previous season and work on maintaining our strengths while addressing our weaknesses. We need to be defensively solid but also pose a threat offensively and find the back of the net. It's all about application and continuing to execute our strengths throughout the tournament."
