New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) Following the Mumbai Indians' sixth consecutive victory this season, former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu shared his thoughts, noting that the success of the five-time champions stems from strategic planning and players effectively adhering to their designated roles.
The five-time champions dominated Rajasthan by a staggering 100 runs at their home ground, advancing to the top of the points table with 14 points from 11 matches. The away team's performance at Sawai Mansingh Stadium was comprehensive, with Ryan Rickleton scoring 61, Rohit Sharma making 54, Suryakumar Yadav hitting 48 not out, and Hardik Pandya also finishing with 48 not out, leading to a total of 217/2. Meanwhile, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah each took three wickets, restricting Rajasthan to just 117 runs in 16.1 overs.
With their winning streak, the Mumbai Indians seem poised to secure a spot in the playoffs, hoping to bounce back from last season's disappointing performance where they finished at the bottom of the table.
“The success of the Mumbai Indians is largely due to their intelligent planning—observe the number of short balls bowled today, which is unusual for Wankhede. They adjusted well to the conditions and executed their game plan effectively. As the tournament progresses, the Mumbai Indians become formidable; they adhere to their roles, leverage their strengths, and manage pressure more adeptly than most teams. Once they reach the playoffs, they transform into a dangerous adversary, boasting 9–10 potential match-winners in their lineup,” Rayudu remarked on JioHotstar.
The former Mumbai Indians player commended Suryakumar's wide-ranging stroke-play and his ability to dominate bowlers.
“The pressure that Suryakumar Yadav places on bowlers is tremendous. Bowlers have faced both major hitters and crafty batters, but he embodies both traits. He can strike straight down the ground or behind the wicketkeeper—his versatility is remarkable. He never allows bowlers to gain the upper hand, irrespective of the conditions, which is what makes him exceptional.”
As the Gujarat Titans prepare to face the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Ahmedabad on Friday, Rayudu emphasized that the visiting batsmen must perform well to secure two vital points from the match.
“In their last outing, the Sunrisers Hyderabad performed admirably against a faltering Chennai Super Kings. However, they will need their batting to excel moving forward. They face the Gujarat Titans, who are currently in excellent form, particularly with their bowling unit. It won’t be an easy task—they have their work cut out,” Rayudu stated.
In their earlier meeting this season, Gujarat convincingly defeated Hyderabad at their home venue by seven wickets.
