Is Mustafizur Rahman Really ‘Completely Chill’ About His IPL Release?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Sylhet, Jan 6 (NationPress) Former Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful shared that fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman remains unruffled by the recent news of his release from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The pacer was let go from KKR’s roster following an order from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) amid ongoing tensions between the countries.
Ashraful, currently serving as the assistant coach for Rangpur Riders in the active Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), stated that Mustafizur is not particularly troubled by the IPL's decision and is concentrating on his BPL commitments with the Riders.
"He (Mustafizur) is completely chill. He is not concerned at all about any off-field discussions - whether it’s regarding the BCB, India, BPL, or ICC," Ashraful mentioned to the media following the Riders’ match against Chattogram Royals.
As the current batting coach of the Bangladesh team, Ashraful continued, "At this moment, he is focused on playing for Rangpur Riders, and whatever comes next, he will tackle that fully. He is an exceptional individual. While his performances in the first two matches weren’t quite up to par, the way we triumphed in our last match against Dhaka was phenomenal. The manner in which Mustafizur bowled those final two overs demonstrates that he is a world-class champion for this format, underscoring his immense value."
In response to the BCCI's decision, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) held an emergency board meeting on Sunday, during which they officially requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to transfer all their matches in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup to locations outside of India due to safety and security issues.
India and Sri Lanka are set to co-host the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup from February 7 to March 8, with matches slated to occur at various venues in both nations.
Bangladesh's reluctance to compete in India could potentially disrupt the tournament schedule, particularly since they are scheduled to face the West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9, and England on February 14 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, as well as Nepal on February 17 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
