Hyderabad, May 4 (NationPress) Top-order batter Karun Nair emphasizes that Delhi Capitals (DC) must embrace a more liberated style of play as they strive to return to winning form in their upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday.
DC enters this match after enduring back-to-back defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at home. Following a five-day break, and with the playoff race heating up, DC is in urgent need of victories to re-enter the top four of the points table.
The team, led by Axar Patel, has achieved six wins out of ten matches so far this season and currently sits fifth on the points table with 12 points. “Winning moments in the game are crucial. We have been performing well in most games, and our position is decent,” stated Nair.
“However, we need to step onto the field and play with a lot of freedom. The break has allowed us a reset, and we’ve had the opportunity to revisit what we excelled at. It’s all about peaking at the right time,” Nair expressed to reporters during the pre-match press conference.
He noted that discussions in the dressing room have been focused on controlling the aspects they can influence to secure a playoff spot. “Each time we take the field, our goal is to win. We aim to win tomorrow and advance further in the tournament.”
“The conversations (in the dressing room) revolve around what we can control and improve upon. We can influence how we perform and win matches. We must not dwell on the past or worry about the future,” he added.
After a remarkable 89 on his IPL return against Mumbai Indians (MI), Nair's form has dipped. He believes it’s crucial to convert his starts into substantial scores for DC. “I still feel I’m batting well. It’s about turning those 20 runs into bigger scores. Those contributions can change matches, and even 15 or 20 runs can make a difference at times.”
