Nayar is set to guide the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, while Mhambrey will mentor ARCS Andheri.
Both mentors bring a vast array of experience that is anticipated to be vital in mentoring young talents throughout the tournament. Nayar previously served as the assistant coach under head coach Gautam Gambhir and was recently released from his position, whereas Mhambrey was part of the coaching staff under Rahul Dravid. Earlier this week, Nayar also accepted an assistant coaching position with the Kolkata Knight Riders, a role he will hold until the conclusion of IPL 2024.
The pair joins a distinguished lineup of coaches and mentors announced by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the third season of the eagerly awaited T20 Mumbai League 2025.
After a six-year hiatus, one of India's top domestic franchise-based T20 leagues is set to return, scheduled to occur at the iconic Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8, featuring eight teams.
The coaching staff includes some of Mumbai's most experienced figures, with Omkar Salvi (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Rajesh Pawar (ARCS Andheri), Atul Ranade (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East), Amit Dani (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals), Prashant Shetty (Eagle Thane Strikers), Pravin Tambe (North Mumbai Panthers), and Vinod Raghvan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs) named as head coaches for the respective franchises. The head coach for Namo Bandra Blasters will be announced at a later date.
“The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is dedicated to fostering and empowering our local coaches and support staff, providing them with enhanced opportunities to develop and contribute to both Mumbai and Indian cricket. By cultivating homegrown talent, we aim to fortify the foundation of our cricketing ecosystem and pave the way for enduring excellence,” stated Ajinkya Naik, President of the MCA.
Recently, the MCA amplified the league's appeal by naming India’s captain Rohit Sharma as the official ambassador for Season 3.
The T20 Mumbai League has been a springboard for many emerging stars, with players like Shivam Dube, Tushar Deshpande, and Shams Mulani making impressive advancements in their careers after excelling in past seasons. With an overwhelming registration response of over 2,800 players for Season 3, the MCA is poised to discover the next wave of Indian cricket talent.
