Lucknow, April 12 (NationPress) Orange cap holder Nicholas Pooran humorously admitted that he occasionally surprises himself with his impressive sixes after scoring 61 runs off 34 balls as the Lucknow Super Giants achieved a six-wicket victory over the Gujarat Giants on Saturday.

Pooran’s innings featured seven sixes and one boundary, marking his fourth half-century in just six matches, and he received strong support from Aiden Markram, who contributed 58 runs at the top of the order.

With Sai Kishore in excellent form, having taken 10 wickets before this match, Pooran recognized the need to target the left-arm spinner, launching three sixes in Kishore’s opening over. The left-handed batsman emphasized that much of his success depends on knowing which players to go after.

"It was a fantastic wicket to bat on. We don’t need to talk much. As a team, we know we have depth in our batting order. Sadly, Mitch didn’t play, so Rishabh stepped in and performed admirably. It was great to see Aiden get off to a good start and continue. I surprise myself sometimes. For me, it’s about making solid contact with the ball and trusting my swing. If I reveal too much, they’ll catch on eventually.

"It’s about identifying who to attack and sometimes setting aside the ego. It’s not merely about hitting sixes; it’s about how I approach my innings. Batting at number 3 means I need to act decisively at times and also consolidate when necessary. I had to be bold and take on that matchup. Today, I was fortunate; it was a big side, and I can hit it high, but I could also get out; it was my matchup, and today it worked out," Pooran remarked after the match.

Pooran reclaimed the orange cap from Gujarat’s opening batsman Sai Sudharsan, who scored 53 runs in the first innings and now has accumulated 333 runs over six innings at an impressive strike rate of 233.49.
