Key Takeaways
Bhubaneswar, Jan 13 (NationPress) Odisha FC has announced its involvement in the postponed 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) season, set to kick off on February 14. The club expressed its dedication to collaborating with the Government of India, AIFF, and all relevant parties, reaffirming support for the government's initiative to keep Indian football thriving.
"After thorough evaluation, Odisha Football Club (OFC) confirms its participation in the forthcoming season of the Indian Super League (ISL), aligning with the proposal from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and supporting the Government of India's mission to ensure continuity, stability, and long-term progress in Indian football.
"OFC is fully behind the Government of India's goal to maintain Indian football's activity, visibility, and unity during this crucial transitional phase. Maintaining momentum in domestic football is essential not only for players, clubs, and staff but also for the millions of avid fans nationwide whose enthusiasm for the sport propels it forward," the club's statement highlighted.
"Throughout the past decade, OFC has been a steadfast contributor to the growth of both men's and women's football in India, making consistent investments in the football ecosystem. Our choice to participate underscores our firm belief in the future of Indian football and in the Indian Super League as the nation's leading football competition.
"We remain fully dedicated to working alongside the Government of India, AIFF, and all involved entities to create a stronger, more competitive, and internationally respected Indian football ecosystem," it continued.
Recently, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya revealed that the ISL will start on February 14, featuring all 14 clubs in a 91-match tournament format, played in a single-leg home-and-away layout.
This decision followed an emergency meeting of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which provided the ISL with a crucial lifeline after months of uncertainty about its future.
Established in 2014, the franchise-based ISL has served as India's premier football league since the 2019-20 season, succeeding the I-League as the country's top division, as per an agreement between the AIFF and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC).
Moreover, the ISL grants Indian football clubs two qualification spots for AFC competitions.
