The Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) has thrown its full weight behind the Odisha T20 League, with Secretary Sanjay Behera describing the tournament as a critical development platform for the state's young cricketers. The league is scheduled to begin on 18 September at the historic Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, a venue with a long and storied international cricket history.

Six Franchises, One Stage

The Odisha T20 League will feature franchises representing six regions of the state — Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Kandujhar, Puri, Rourkela, and Sambalpur. The format is designed to celebrate Odisha's diverse cricketing culture and is expected to ignite regional rivalries that add competitive intensity for both players and supporters.

'The Odisha T20 League is an important step towards strengthening the cricketing structure in the state. It will give our young players a competitive platform where they can test themselves, learn from experienced cricketers and gain the confidence needed to take the next step in their careers,' Behera said.

He added that the multi-city franchise model would consolidate the state's talent pool. 'With teams representing different parts of Odisha, the league will also help bring the state's diverse cricketing talent together. Our focus will be on providing the teams with the right facilities and creating a professional environment throughout the tournament,' he said.

Barabati Stadium and Fan Support

Behera underscored the significance of staging the league at Barabati Stadium, a ground that holds deep emotional resonance with Odisha's cricket community. 'Barabati Stadium has always had a strong connection with cricket lovers in Odisha, and we hope the league gives them plenty of reasons to celebrate,' he said, calling fan turnout 'very important' to making the season special.

Bridging Experience and Youth

The squad compositions are expected to blend seasoned domestic cricketers with emerging talent, giving younger players direct exposure to high-pressure match situations. This comes amid a broader push by state associations across India to build structured domestic T20 ecosystems that serve as feeders to the Indian Premier League (IPL) and national selection pipelines. Notably, several state T20 leagues have produced players who have gone on to represent India at various age-group levels.
