Visakhapatnam, Sep 5 (NationPress) The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) experienced a remarkable milestone with its inaugural Golden Raid during a tie-breaker at the Vishwanadh Sports Club in Vizag on Thursday evening. Dabang Delhi K.C. made history as the first team to secure a victory through a Golden Raid, thanks to the incredible performance of Ashu Malik, which featured a Super 10 on that night.
The match concluded with both teams tied at 28-28, leading to a tie-breaker where the score was again level at 5-5 until Ashu Malik delivered the decisive moment.
Reflecting on his game-winning display, he mentioned, “It was a challenging match from start to finish. They had a robust defense. Towards the end, they led by 2-3 points. Both sides were fiercely competing, and we didn’t anticipate the match would go to a Golden Raid. We felt fortunate to win the toss and the match.”
His teammate, Fazel Atrachali, also achieved a High Five, significantly contributing to the team's success. Praising his teammate, the Iranian stated, “At 5-5, I was confident. I knew we would win because we have several talented players like Ashu. He is our game changer.”
Fazel further commented on the influence of the tie-breaker rule, particularly for the fans, saying, “Kabaddi is now more thrilling for fans, as a tie could have been dull for some. Now, it resembles basketball or volleyball where every second and play holds significance. We are enjoying it, and we hope the fans are too.”
Despite the hard-fought defeat, Aslam Inamdar expressed pride in his team's resilience until the end. Sharing his thoughts on the intense moment, the Puneri Paltan captain remarked, “My heart raced during the coin toss, and I was praying. It was their luck to win the toss and the match. But it’s fine; winning and losing are part of the game. We learn from our mistakes and progress.”
Puneri Paltan head coach Ajay Thakur also shared his candid views on the tie-breaker and Golden Raid rule, asserting that it adds a new layer of excitement for fans.
“Fans will appreciate the tie-breaker rule. It’s an excellent decision for the audience. Whenever there’s a tied match, they might not enjoy it as much. Everyone wants to see results, even if a team loses. This is very beneficial for the fans. They feel satisfied. Now, Puneri Paltan has lost to Dabang Delhi K.C., and the fans will remember this outcome for a long time,” he concluded.
