Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 22 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded Indian-origin cricketers competing in international teams and underscored the essence of 'Bhartiyata'. He pointed out that wherever Indians go, they maintain a profound connection to their 'matrabhoomi' (motherland) while actively contributing to the growth of their 'karmabhoomi' (place of duty).
He stressed the vital role of sports in life, stating, "One who plays, blooms", and emphasized that sports "unite us".
During the 131st episode of his monthly radio show, 'Mann Ki Baat', PM Modi remarked, "You must be watching T20 World Cup matches. It’s likely you notice a specific player. The jersey may represent another country, but when you hear their name, you realize they hail from our land. This connection brings a sense of joy, knowing the player of Indian origin is representing the nation where their family has settled."
"They step onto the field wearing their country's jersey and wholeheartedly represent that nation," he added.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Canadian cricket team features a significant number of Indian-origin players. He mentioned that the captain, Dilpreet Bajwa, was born in Punjab's Gurdaspur, and Naveneet Dhaliwal is from Chandigarh. He also highlighted players like Harsh Thaker and Shreyas Movva, noting that they are "making both Canada and India proud".
Furthermore, PM Modi spoke about the USA cricket team, stating, "America's team includes numerous players from India's domestic cricket. The captain, Monank Patel, has played for Gujarat's U-16 and U-18 teams. Players like Saurabh, Harmeet Singh, and Milind Kumar from Delhi are also proud representatives of the American team."
He also noted that several members of the Oman cricket team have played across various states in India and mentioned players like Jatinder Singh, Vinayak Shukla, Karan, Jai, and Ashish.
"Indian-origin players are also establishing themselves in teams from New Zealand, UAE, and Italy. Many of these players are bringing pride to their countries and serving as inspirations for the youth there," he stated.
"This is the essence of Bhartiyata. No matter where they go, Indians stay connected to their motherland's roots and contribute to the progress of their karmabhoomi," the Prime Minister concluded.
