New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Angkrish Raghuvanshi recognizes that the T20 format is constantly changing. Since joining the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during their victorious 2024 season, where he impressed fans with his ramp, reverse-sweep, and scoop shots, scoring 163 runs across ten matches, Raghuvanshi had a remarkable IPL 2025, accumulating 300 runs in 12 appearances.

As IPL 2026 approaches in just 10 days, the surprise factor that worked in Raghuvanshi's favor, especially after his explosive 54 off 27 balls on debut, will shift to heightened expectations for consistent performances with the bat. When asked about his objectives for IPL 2026, the humble right-handed batsman has a straightforward response.

"My mindset remains unchanged. It's always about winning matches for my team, and that will never change. Regarding the role I will play, I will adapt as the IPL progresses and commit fully to it. However, my primary aim is to sustain my mindset and secure as many victories as possible for the team," Raghuvanshi stated in a candid discussion with IANS, organized by JSW Sports.

Post-IPL 2025, Raghuvanshi's journey has faced challenges – he missed Mumbai's Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign this domestic season. Nonetheless, he showcased his talent in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing as Mumbai's second-highest run-scorer with 280 runs in seven matches, trailing only Sarfaraz Khan.

His red-ball cricket opportunities have been limited – with just four first-class matches to his name, he is currently coming off participation in the U23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy. Yet, Raghuvanshi, who was the top scorer in India's U19 World Cup victory in 2022, expresses gratitude for the chance to continually engage with the sport he cherishes.

"I have a profound love for this sport, and I am thankful for every opportunity I receive to play. I don’t burden myself with pressure; rather, I embrace the journey and strive to perform at my best," he expressed.

A pivotal relationship in Raghuvanshi’s life and career is with Abhishek Nayar, who is stepping up as KKR’s head coach after serving as an assistant for a significant time.

Raghuvanshi first met Nayar at his academy when he was just 11 years old at Wilson College Gymkhana in Mumbai, having moved from New Delhi. Their bond has strengthened over the years, as highlighted by that iconic post-IPL 2024 trophy photo on his Instagram. "It was a dream realized for me," he reminisced.

"I had the chance to train at his academy for a month, and then he came in as my coach. He recognized my dedication and eagerness to learn. He could see my passion for the game, which led him to coach me further.

"He has taught me how to become a better cricketer and individual. Everything I’ve learned in life has been under his guidance. He is an exceptional cricketing mind and an even better person, and I believe we will have a fantastic season under his leadership," Raghuvanshi shared.

Technically, Nayar’s impact is evident in Raghuvanshi’s readiness to execute both conventional and unconventional shots that demand skill and courage. The rationale behind this approach is simple, according to Raghuvanshi.

"Abhishek sir drives me to practice harder than anyone else. His philosophy is that if you train rigorously and embrace pressure in practice, match situations will feel easier, which has indeed worked for me," he noted.

When asked about the secret to KKR’s dynamic environment, Raghuvanshi attributes it not to the star players or coaching staff, but to the franchise’s academy, which fosters year-round connections among players.

"The KKR academy plays a significant role since we train together throughout the year. By the time the tournament arrives, we all know each other quite well. It's an environment where everyone is rooting for one another’s success. It’s a unique and wonderful atmosphere to be part of.

“Everyone is motivated to excel this season. In every match, we give our best effort, and while the outcomes may vary, our mindset remains consistent – to support the team in winning and fulfilling whatever the team requires," he articulated.

The most important lesson from Raghuvanshi’s IPL experience has been the importance of continuous growth as a player. "My greatest realization is that everyone around you is evolving and learning, so one must always strive for improvement. Each day spent playing or training is an opportunity to learn and enhance skills because everyone else is also advancing," he asserted.

As IPL 2026 approaches, Raghuvanshi is excited about collaborating with new international teammates at KKR. He has already pinpointed individuals from whom he aims to learn more about cricket – Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, and assistant coach Shane Watson are at the top of his list.

"I look forward to working with all of them to glean insights into their cricketing approach and enhance my own abilities. Their past performances speak volumes, and that’s what sets them apart as some of the best in the world," he remarked.

Amid all this, Raghuvanshi’s family support remains steadfast – his father Avneesh was a tennis player, and his mother Mallika represented India in basketball. Furthermore, his brother Krishang ventured into professional tennis.

"My parents have been incredibly supportive, and I am immensely grateful for their encouragement. They understand my passion for the sport and motivate me to work hard and continue enjoying the game," he expressed.

Raghuvanshi draws inspiration from Shubman Gill and AB de Villiers, but it is Cristiano Ronaldo's relentless work ethic that inspires him the most. "I have always been a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, especially as a Manchester United supporter. His drive to succeed and his off-field habits serve as valuable lessons for young athletes like me," he concluded.

Time will reveal whether KKR can rebound from a subdued 2025 season, particularly as questions loom over their fast-bowling resources. For now, Raghuvanshi’s spotlight will shine brighter as long as he continues to accumulate runs while adhering to his principles of remaining grounded, perpetually improving, and assisting KKR in clinching victories.
