New Delhi, May 10 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has urged the iconic batter Virat Kohli to rethink his reported choice to retire from Test cricket.

On Saturday, IANS revealed that Kohli has informed the BCCI of his intention to retire from Test cricket prior to the crucial five-match series in England, beginning June 20. However, the BCCI has implored the former India captain and the team's most seasoned batter to reconsider his decision, emphasizing the significant challenges ahead in the format, particularly the England tour.

Rayudu asserts that the team will feel the void of Kohli’s immense presence.

"Virat Kohli, please don’t retire. The Indian team needs your prowess now more than ever. You have so much more to offer. Test cricket will not be the same without you stepping onto the field for Team India. Please think it over," Rayudu expressed in a social media post.

India’s five-match Test tour of England also marks the initiation of a new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for them, with captain Rohit Sharma stepping back from the longest format. Kohli, who has captained India in 68 Tests, is recognized as India’s most successful skipper in this format.

"Virat Kohli still has significant cricket left in him. For the sake of the Indian team, I hope he continues to play Test cricket. No one has advocated for Test cricket more than him in recent times, and we cannot allow such an ambassador of the game to depart so soon #ViratKohli," remarked Priyank Panchal, the Gujarat opener, on ‘X’.

Since his Test debut in 2011, Kohli has participated in 123 Tests, accumulating 9230 runs at an average of 46.85. If Kohli proceeds with his retirement plans, India will face a significant lack of experience during their Test tour of England without him and Rohit.
