Bengaluru, May 22 (NationPress) Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have signed New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert as a temporary substitute for Jacob Bethell, who is set to return to England for a white-ball series against the West Indies, commencing on May 29.
Seifert, a seasoned player with 66 T20I matches and 1,540 runs to his credit, is joining RCB for a fee of Rs 2 crore. Bethell will depart the RCB camp following the team's second-last league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, scheduled for Friday in Lucknow.
According to the IPL announcement, "Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have enlisted Tim Seifert as Jacob Bethell is poised to exit the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for England on May 24, after RCB’s league-stage clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23, 2025. The replacement will take effect from May 24, 2025."
Previously, Seifert had a brief tenure with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021, where he appeared in only one match. He later joined Delhi Capitals in the following season, participating in two games and accumulating 24 runs.
Notably, former England captain Jos Buttler (Gujarat Titans) and Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) have also announced their unavailability for the playoffs as they have been summoned by England for an upcoming ODI series against the West Indies, which coincides with the start of the IPL knockouts.
To compensate for Buttler's absence, GT has recruited Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, who is yet to debut in the lucrative tournament. Meanwhile, Jacks, who returned to India last week ahead of MI's final two group-stage matches, has been replaced by his England teammate and wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow.
RCB has secured a spot in the playoffs with two league matches remaining. Currently, they are in second place with 17 points from 12 games. After their match against SRH on Friday, RCB will face the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on May 27.
