He will serve as a temporary replacement for Jacob Bethell, who is set to depart for England to participate in a white-ball series against the West Indies, commencing on May 29.
Seifert, boasting a record of 66 T20Is and 1,540 runs, will join RCB for a fee of Rs 2 crore. Bethell is expected to leave the RCB camp following the team's final league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which is scheduled for Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
According to an IPL statement, "RCB has signed Tim Seifert as Jacob Bethell is set to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for England on May 24, following RCB’s league-stage game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23, 2025 - to join the England team. The replacement will take effect from May 24, 2025."
Seifert previously had a brief stint with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021, where he participated in just one match. The following year, he moved to Delhi Capitals, featuring in two games and scoring 24 runs.
Earlier, former England captain Jos Buttler and Will Jacks confirmed their unavailability for the playoffs as they have been called up by England for their upcoming ODI series against the West Indies, which begins on the same day the IPL knockouts commence.
To compensate for Buttler's absence, the Gujarat Titans have signed Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, who is yet to make his debut in the lucrative tournament. Additionally, Jacks, who returned to India last week ahead of MI's last two group-stage matches, has been replaced by his England teammate and wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow.
RCB has successfully qualified for the playoffs with two league games remaining. They currently sit in second place with 17 points from 12 games. After their clash against SRH on Friday, RCB will face the Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on May 27.
