Rishabh Pant Enhances White-Ball Skills with Yuvraj Singh Ahead of IPL 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 12 (NationPress) Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has provided fans with a sneak peek into his training sessions with former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh during a brief camp in Mumbai. This initiative comes as Pant aims to rejuvenate his white-ball career ahead of the commencement of IPL 2026 on March 28.
Pant, who leads the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and holds the record for the highest IPL price tag at Rs 27 crore, has been absent from competitive cricket since he suffered a side strain while batting just before India’s ODI series against New Zealand in Vadodara this January.
A video showcasing his training has gone viral on social media, depicting Pant facing balls while Yuvraj observed closely from the umpire’s position, offering invaluable advice. According to insights from IANS, the sessions were designed to enhance both Pant's skills and temperament, essential for succeeding in the modern white-ball format.
“Rishabh has been diligently honing his game and focusing on his fitness,” shared a source with IANS on Thursday. “His transformation is evident as he appears leaner. He expressed a desire to enhance his white-ball capabilities beyond just T20.”
“He reached out to Yuvraj for a three-to-four-day training stint, which took place at the CCI ground in Mumbai, prior to his departure for Chennai for LSG’s ongoing pre-season camp, followed by another camp in Lucknow,” the source added.
The brief training camp was not solely aimed at improving Pant’s T20 skills. Instead, he has a broader vision of excelling in limited-overs cricket for an extended period.
Pant is a part of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy winning squads, but he faced a challenging IPL 2025, amassing only 269 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 133.16—his lowest since his IPL debut in 2016. Although he scored an unbeaten 118 in LSG's last league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, it was insufficient to help his team, which ended in seventh place in the standings.
Yuvraj, celebrated for his pivotal roles in India’s victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, has taken on the mentorship of several players in recent years, including Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, and Prabhsimran Singh. He also briefly mentored Sanju Samson, who was named Player of the Tournament in India’s recent T20 World Cup victory on home soil.
Currently, Pant is the second-choice wicketkeeper for India in ODIs, trailing behind KL Rahul, and was absent from the T20 World Cup-winning squad. With fellow wicketkeepers Samson and Ishan Kishan in exceptional form in T20s, Pant is determined to score heavily and spearhead LSG’s resurgence in IPL 2026.
