New Chandigarh, April 6 (NationPress) Following a commanding 50-run victory for Rajasthan Royals over Punjab Kings in IPL 2025, seasoned fast bowler Sandeep Sharma praised Jofra Archer for his impressive figures of 3-25. He emphasized that the unique skill set Archer brings to a team truly distinguishes him from his peers.
In his previous outings against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, Archer had given away 76 and 33 runs respectively without claiming a wicket. However, he showcased his exceptional talent by dismissing Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer in the opening over of PBKS' chase, before returning to take down Arshdeep Singh later in the innings, playing a pivotal role in RR’s comprehensive dismantling of PBKS.
“In the initial matches, nerves can be a factor. However, we always recognized he’s world-class; the skill he contributes is genuinely unique and rare. The management was confident that once he secured a wicket or had a couple of solid overs, it would significantly enhance his confidence,” Sandeep stated.
“He is one of the most challenging bowlers to confront. It was just our fourth match; with more games ahead, he will only improve. Previously, when he was conceding runs, his lengths varied; now, they have evolved. Champions adapt quickly to what is required, and that’s precisely what he did,” Sandeep added.
Sandeep himself concluded the match with figures of 2-21 in his four overs as RR successfully defended their total of 205. His spell was notable for his effective use of slower balls and yorkers to outsmart Suryansh Shedge and Shashank Singh. He shared how insights from RR batters regarding the pitch aided him in strategizing.
“Bowling in the second half granted us the advantage of receiving feedback from our batters; this was incredibly beneficial. Our game plan revolved around bowling back of a length and targeting the top of off-stump since scoring was challenging. This was also the approach our spinners adopted. Deliveries bowled back of a length were skidding and kept low,” he elaborated.
“We recognized this during our batting; we adapted to the pitch conditions more swiftly than the opposing team. During the timeout, we engaged with the batters to gather insights on what was difficult to hit and which deliveries were hard to convert into boundary balls, allowing us to minimize those types of deliveries,” he continued.
RR, under the leadership of Sanju Samson, is set to face off against the Gujarat Titans, captained by Shubman Gill, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
