Mumbai, June 23 (NationPress) Indian cricket opener Prithvi Shaw has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday, allowing him to play for a different state in the upcoming domestic cricket season. The MCA mentioned, “Prithvi Shaw has formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a professional player in the upcoming domestic season.”
“Following careful consideration, the MCA has approved the NOC. We recognize and appreciate Prithvi's contributions over the years and wish him continued success,” stated the MCA after a meeting with its Apex Council.
Shaw has represented India in five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I but was omitted from Mumbai's squad during the first leg of last year’s Ranji Trophy due to form and fitness challenges. He made a comeback during the victorious 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) campaign, scoring 197 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 156.34. However, he was not included in Mumbai's lineup for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT).
“Prithvi Shaw has shown exceptional talent and has significantly contributed to Mumbai cricket. We respect his decision and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” added MCA secretary Abhay Hadap in the statement.
Shaw captained India to victory in the 2018 U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and marked his Test debut with a century against the West Indies in Rajkot in 2018. However, his declining form and fitness issues have garnered attention recently.
Shaw's situation has deteriorated to the point of being dropped by his IPL team, Delhi Capitals, for the 2024 season, and he went unsold in the mega auction for the 2025 IPL edition, failing to attract interest from any of the ten teams as a replacement player.
While the specific team Shaw will join for the upcoming domestic season remains unclear, sources indicate that several state units are keen on acquiring him to strengthen their batting line-up, with more details expected shortly.
