Prithvi Shaw's Emotional Return to Delhi Capitals Ahead of IPL 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 22 (NationPress) Indian opener Prithvi Shaw expressed heartfelt emotions as he rejoins the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium ahead of the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) season starting on March 28.
Shaw's long-standing relationship with the Delhi franchise concluded after seven seasons when he was released prior to the IPL 2025 auction. The 26-year-old faced disappointment when he went unsold as the team chose not to retain the now Maharashtra batter.
His luck turned during the accelerated phase of the IPL 2026 Auction, where he was among 11 players selected in the final round, earning a contract worth Rs 75 lakh with his former team.
On Sunday, DC shared a video of Shaw's return, captioned, 'Our Boy is back home.'
"You never forget a place like Kotla. The noise, the silence, and all it has made you," Shaw remarked in a video from DC. "Some stories don't finish; they return. Delhi, your boy is home," he added.
Shaw was initially acquired by the Delhi team for Rs. 1.2 crore during the auction following India's U-19 World Cup victory in 2018, where he captained the side. Throughout his seven-season tenure with DC, he played 79 matches, amassing 1892 runs at an average of 23.5, including 14 fifties.
In the previous season, DC narrowly missed a playoff spot, finishing fifth with seven wins out of 14 matches. The team is yet to secure an IPL trophy and aims to achieve this goal in the 19th season.
As per the 20-match schedule released by the BCCI, the Delhi Capitals will kick off their campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on April 1.
