Did Prithvi Shaw Just Make an Instagram U-Turn After Being Bought by Delhi Capitals?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Dec 16 (NationPress) Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw made a surprising turn on social media today, posting a heartbreak emoji on his Instagram story just moments after failing to attract bids at the IPL 2026 auction. This came after he went unsold twice, only to have his fortunes change when the Delhi Capitals acquired him in a last-minute offer.
Initially, after being listed at a base price of Rs 75 lakh, Shaw went unsold in the first round. His name resurfaced during the auction of unsold players, where he again did not receive any bids. Shortly thereafter, he shared an Instagram story stating, "It's Ok," along with a heartbreak emoji.
However, as the auction neared its conclusion, Shaw's name was called out once more, this time by Delhi Capitals, who secured him.
In a swift response, Shaw deleted his earlier post within six minutes and replaced it with a new story, resharing the franchise’s announcement featuring a selfie with DC captain Axar Patel, who welcomed him back.
He captioned the new post, "Back to my family," alongside a heart emoji, illustrating his quick turnaround. In this latest Instagram update, Shaw, who achieved the record for the fastest double century in the Ranji Trophy this October, expressed his astonishment at rejoining the franchise he had represented from 2018 to 2024.
At just 26, Prithvi Shaw has played five Test matches and six ODIs for India since his debut against the West Indies in October 2018, with his last ODI appearance occurring against Sri Lanka on July 23, 2021.
Shaw made his domestic debut for Mumbai in the 2016-17 season. Recently, he transitioned to play for Maharashtra in the domestic circuit.
Shaw, who holds the record for the highest score by any batsman in organized cricket since 1901, with a staggering 546 in a Harris Shield elite division match, also captained the Indian team that clinched the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2018. Additionally, he represented Northamptonshire in the English County Championship during the 2023-24 season.
