Bareilly, Jan 11 (NationPress) Shiva Thapa and Sachin Siwach maintained their outstanding performances, securing significant triumphs on Day 4 of the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Thapa, representing Assam, exhibited his dominant skills in the Welterweight (60-65kg) division with a decisive 5-0 victory over Himanshu Sangwan. Meanwhile, former World Youth Champion Sachin delivered another powerful showing, defeating Kingson Pukhrambam from Manipur by the same scoreline.
Devendra Solanki from Rajasthan has emerged as one of the standout athletes in this tournament. Competing in the Flyweight (47-50kg) category, he showcased remarkable skill and resolve, achieving his third consecutive victory in the championship.
He secured a unanimous decision over Zorammuana from Mizoram to move on to the last eight. Additionally, Abhinash Jamwal from Himachal Pradesh pulled off a significant upset by defeating the 2022 Youth World Boxing Champion (63.5kg), Vanshaj Kumar from the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), with a commanding 5-0 score, advancing stylishly to the quarterfinals.
In another exciting match, Gopi from Punjab ended Govind Sahani’s impressive run with a Round 3 victory in the Flyweight category, halting the progress of the Strandja Memorial silver medallist.
Meanwhile, Bhanu Prakash from Andhra Pradesh made headlines with a knockout victory over Umesh Chavan from Goa, moving forward to the next round.
Overall, it was another successful day for the Services Sports Control Board, as they continued their dominance in the championship. In addition to Sachin, Hitesh Gulia (Light Middleweight), Deepak (Welterweight), Jugnoo (Cruiserweight), and Vishal (Heavyweight) all achieved victories, solidifying SSCB’s strong presence in the competition.
