Lakshya Chahar Steers Services to Success on Day 3 of Men's Boxing Nationals

Bareilly, Jan 10 (NationPress) Lakshya Chahar propelled the Services Sports Control Board’s (SSCB) exceptional performance at the Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship, exhibiting a commanding display on Day 3 and bolstering his team's effort to defend their title in this esteemed competition.

Chahar, an experienced boxer who has represented India at the Asian Games, World Championship, and two editions of the Asian Championship, triumphed over Railways’ Sahil with a unanimous decision in the Light Heavyweight (75-80kg) class, moving forward to the next round.

Govind Sahani, who kicked off his campaign with a commanding win over Mohammad Aarif of Jammu & Kashmir on Day 1, maintained his impressive streak in the championship. The silver medallist from the 2023 Strandja Memorial International Boxing Tournament achieved his second straight win with a decisive 5-0 decision against Gourav Mazumder of Assam in the Lightweight category, adding another victory for the Railways’ team.

Day 3 of the championship turned out to be exceptionally fruitful for the Punjab state squad, showcasing a series of strong performances throughout two sessions. Gopi earned a hard-fought victory in the Flyweight category, while Jayshandeep Singh displayed his prowess to win in the Bantamweight division.

Further contributing to the team's success, Nikhil secured a significant win in the Lightweight category, and Kanwarpreet Singh concluded the day with an impressive showing in the Super Heavyweight division.

This championship, organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association, is taking place at Invertis University in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, from January 7-13.

With approximately 300 boxers competing in various weight classes, the week-long event features matches conducted under the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, which include three three-minute rounds along with one-minute rest intervals.

The 10-points-must scoring system is applied throughout the tournament, with each state unit fielding up to ten boxers. Team SSCB, the two-time defending champions, has entered the competition as frontrunners, continuing to excel across categories as they strive for their third consecutive title.
