Abhinash Jamwal Stuns Shiva Thapa to Secure Spot in Men's Boxing Nationals Final

Bareilly, Jan 13 (NationPress) Abhinash Jamwal’s remarkable journey in the 8th Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship soared to new heights as he overcame the current Welterweight champion and experienced boxer Shiva Thapa in a captivating semifinal encounter.

Jamwal, representing Himachal Pradesh, has emerged as one of the tournament's top performers, gaining momentum through victories against strong opponents, including the 2022 Youth World Champion Vanshaj Kumar earlier in the event.

In the meantime, the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) continued to demonstrate their prowess with impressive performances, earning spots in eight out of ten weight categories for the finals.

Notably, SSCB’s former World Youth Champion Sachin Siwach achieved a decisive victory over Gorish Pujani from Haryana in the Lightweight (55-60kg) class. Lakshya Chahar, another standout, triumphed over Malsawmtluanga from Mizoram in the Light Heavyweight (75-80kg) category, securing his place in the finals.

Additionally, SSCB reinforced their presence in the finals with Jadumani Singh Mandengbram (Flyweight), Hitesh (Light Middleweight), Deepak (Welterweight), Jugnoo (Cruiserweight), and Vishal (Heavyweight) all achieving semifinal victories, ensuring SSCB representation across almost all weight divisions.

In the Super Heavyweight (90-90+kg) division, Narender of Uttarakhand outperformed SSCB’s Gaurav Chauhan in their semifinal bout, setting up a final clash against Anshul Gill from Haryana. Gill advanced to the final after defeating Raghav Sharma in another thrilling encounter.

Roughly 300 boxers participated in various weight categories throughout this week-long tournament, with only 20 remaining to compete in the finals. The championship adheres to the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, consisting of three three-minute rounds with one-minute rest intervals. The event employs a scoring system of ten points, allowing each state unit to enter up to ten boxers.
