Shiva Thapa and Sachin Siwach Excel on Day 2 of the National Men's Boxing Championship

Bareilly, Jan 9 (NationPress) Shiva Thapa, the current welterweight (60-65 kg) champion, commenced his title defence at the Elite Men’s National Boxing Championship with a decisive victory on Day 2.

Representing Assam, Thapa, who made history as the youngest Indian boxer to qualify for the Olympics in London 2012, triumphed over Enayat Khan with a score of 5-0 in his opening match, establishing a robust momentum for his campaign.

Also shining on this day was former World Youth Boxing Champion Sachin Siwach, who made a spectacular entry into the championship with a 5-0 win for the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) against Akshay.

The third session of the tournament on Day 2 also featured an exciting opening match as Devansh Solanki from Rajasthan defeated Vikas Singh from Uttar Pradesh by unanimous decision in the flyweight (47-50 kg) category. Additionally, Ashutosh Yadav from Chhattisgarh showcased a dominant performance in Round 1 to overcome Akleem Khan from Gujarat, setting the stage for exhilarating action throughout the day.

In the fourth session, Team SSCB strengthened their dominance with wins across various categories. Hitesh Gulia, Deepak, Jugnoo, and Vishal exhibited their prowess, securing victories in the Light Middleweight, Welterweight, Cruiserweight, and Heavyweight divisions, respectively.

Rajasthan also exhibited remarkable performance, with Priyadarshi Singh Ashiya (light middleweight), Pushpendra Singh (cruiserweight), and Harsh Choudhary (heavyweight) all achieving victories, underscoring the team's overall excellence in the championship.

This tournament is organized by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Boxing Association, taking place at Invertis University, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, from January 7-13. Nearly 300 boxers, representing various state units across India, are competing for supremacy in several weight categories.

Each state unit features up to ten boxers in bouts structured under the World Boxing Technical & Competition Rules, with matches consisting of three three-minute rounds and one-minute rest periods. A 10-point-must scoring system is utilized throughout the championship.

Team SSCB (Services), the two-time defending champions, continues to present a significant challenge as they strive for their third consecutive title.
