Is Experience Taking Shivam Dube in the Right Direction?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vizag, Jan 29 (NationPress) Following India's 50-run defeat in the fourth T20I against New Zealand, all-rounder Shivam Dube shared insights into his explosive batting capabilities, crediting his regular match participation for enhancing his performance and building a resilient mindset.
Dube displayed his talent with a rapid-fire half-century during the game in Vizag on Wednesday. He achieved a remarkable 15-ball half-century—the third-fastest by an Indian player in T20Is—coming in at No. 6 against the Black Caps in an impressive display.
“I am improving my mindset because of the consistent matches I’m playing. I am now experiencing various scenarios while batting. So, I can anticipate what the bowler is planning to bowl. This understanding is crucial for both my batting and bowling. I owe my bowling opportunities to Gautam Gambhir and Surya. Whenever I bowl, I become a bit more astute. I am focused on enhancing my skills,” Dube informed reporters.
“I have put in a lot of effort. However, one significant aspect is that I am getting the chance to bowl and bat—essentially contributing in all match capacities. Hence, experience is key. That experience is guiding me positively,” he added.
Dube concluded with a total of 65 runs off 23 balls, with a striking 36 runs against spin, showcasing his strength at an impressive strike rate of 400.
“There are numerous areas where players evolve. It's essential for me as well; I can’t remain static. I aim to be a little smarter, a little better in each game. I learn how to refine my approach and identify my strengths to target effectively. Understanding match-ups is crucial. They want me to target spinners, as my role is to elevate the strike rate during middle overs,” he stated.
“My focus is not solely on spinners but also on fast bowlers. Nonetheless, I am aware of my strengths and how I can apply pressure on opponents during those stages. My mindset is clear,” Dube emphasized.
Dube particularly targeted Ish Sodhi and applied pressure on Mitchell Santner, hitting seven sixes during his innings. He scored 29 runs off Sodhi in the 12th over.
“At that moment, there was no specific game plan. It was more about instincts. I believed it would be challenging to hit spinners, as he was bowling well. However, I sensed he might deliver a poor ball, and I was prepared to capitalize on that. My goal was to assert dominance, and that’s precisely what I executed,” the all-rounder revealed.
With the series already secured, India aims to conclude on a positive note when the fifth and final T20I match takes place in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
