New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) Suraj Narredu-led Team Asia has triumphantly brought home the Shergar Cup 2025 trophy. Making his mark from India to Ascot, Narredu fulfilled his pledge to create a global impression. Partnering with Japanese riders Ryusei Sakai and Mirai Iwata, he claimed victory in two of the six races and achieved a vital second place, winning by a narrow margin of just one point over Europe.
Team Asia emerged victorious with a score of 68–67 against Europe, while Great Britain & Ireland finished third with 62 points, and the Rest of the World garnered 55. Hugh Bowman earned the Silver Saddle as the top jockey.
Under the training of Dylan Cunha, Narredu rode Fireblade at the esteemed Ascot Racecourse, winning the Shergar Cup Stayers. Sakai also achieved success aboard Prince of India in the Shergar Cup Sprint.
In a well-executed two-mile race, the 40-year-old jockey made his move early, maintaining a lead of almost two lengths over his competitors. “Winning today as a debut team is the icing on the cake. I know this is a new team, but I’m confident they’ll be a formidable force in the future,” he remarked.
With over 2,400 career victories, Narredu has demonstrated excellence across various terrains. His dedication to upholding the Narredu legacy, just as his father and uncle did, adds profound significance to his achievements.
“This has been a dream come true. I had always envisioned what this moment would feel like, but experiencing it is surreal. It’s one of the greatest moments in my life—the moment I’ve always awaited. I feel privileged to bring this win back to my country,” he expressed.
To commemorate this achievement, Narredu celebrated with a signature flying dismount for the first time—a move popularized by his idol Frankie Dettori—delighting the crowd and leaving fans beaming with joy.
