Syed Modi International: Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu Secure Singles Titles; Treesa-Gayatri Triumph in Women's Doubles

Lucknow, Dec 1 (NationPress) Lakshya Sen secured the men's singles championship by decisively defeating Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh in the final match of the Syed Modi International on Sunday. Sen triumphed in the title bout with scores of 21-6, 21-7, finishing the match in a mere 31 minutes, marking him as the third Indian to claim the top honors of the day. Earlier, PV Sindhu broke her long-standing title drought by winning the women's singles trophy, while the Indian duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand snatched the women's doubles title.

From the outset, Sen exhibited dominance in the final, facing minimal resistance from his Singaporean opponent.

On the other hand, Sindhu, who had experienced challenges since the onset of the 2024 season, achieved a notable victory against China's Wu Luo Yu with scores of 21-14, 21-16 in a 47-minute match, marking her third tournament win. She previously won this tournament in 2017 and 2022.

The former world champion last celebrated a title win at the Singapore Open in July 2022. This season, she had only reached the final of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 before finally securing a title in Lucknow.

In women's doubles, Treesa and Gayatri experienced a remarkable milestone, earning their first Super 300 title. They achieved a convincing 21-18, 21-11 victory over China's Bao Li Jing and Li Qian, making history as the first Indian women's doubles team to win this tournament. The Commonwealth Games bronze medalists, who were runners-up in the 2022 edition, improved their performance this year.

In the men's doubles, Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K demonstrated commendable resilience in their final match but narrowly fell to China's Huang Di and Liu Yang with a scoreline of 14-21, 21-19, 17-21 after a taxing 71-minute game.

Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, the fifth-seeded pair of Tanisha Castro and Dhruv Kapila began strong by winning the first game but ultimately lost 21-18, 14-21, 8-21 to Thailand's sixth-seeded team of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran.
