Tendulkar and Gavaskar Among Indian Skippers Celebrating 50 Years of Wankhede Stadium

Mumbai, Jan 10 (NationPress) Renowned cricketers from Mumbai, along with former captains of the Indian team, are set to join forces with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the illustrious Wankhede Stadium on January 19. The celebrations will commence on January 12, building up to a grand main event that promises an exhilarating evening for cricket enthusiasts.
Cricket legends from Mumbai, including Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravi Shastri, Ajinkya Rahane, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Diana Edulji, will come together to honour the significant history of the Wankhede Stadium. This celebration is set to pay homage to the stadium's crucial role in the heritage of cricket.
The key event will also showcase legendary male and female players from Mumbai, representing both domestic and international cricket.
Attendees can anticipate performances by renowned artists Avadhoot Gupte and Ajay-Atul, along with a stunning laser show.
In remarks for the occasion, MCA President Ajinkya Naik stated, "As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic Wankhede Stadium, I cordially invite all cricket fans to join us for this momentous event. Our legendary heroes will be part of the festivities, as we collectively honour the rich legacy of the Wankhede Stadium, a true pride of Mumbai. Let’s ensure this celebration is truly memorable."
As part of the festivities, the MCA officials and Apex Council Members will unveil a coffee table book on January 19. Additionally, a commemorative postal stamp will be issued to recognise the esteemed legacy of the Wankhede Stadium.
Throughout the celebration week, the MCA will host a cricket match between MCA officials and Consul General bureaucrats on January 12.
To celebrate the contributions of Mumbai cricket's unsung heroes, the MCA will honour the groundsmen of the MCA's clubs and grounds and will organise the Polly Umrigar Health Camp along with a special lunch for them on January 15. This will be followed by a recognition of the members of the Mumbai team that participated in the first first-class match held at the Wankhede Stadium in 1974.
