Hyderabad, Feb 28 (NationPress) The Telangana State Tennis Association (TSTA) has formed a partnership with the Tennis Premier League (TPL) to host state-ranking tournaments in Telangana, alongside the Race to Gold Scholarship program aimed at top-ranked players.
A significant aspect of this collaboration is the incorporation of TPL's nationwide Race to Gold (RTG) initiative by TSTA. This program is dedicated to discovering and developing India’s most talented young tennis athletes, with the ultimate goal of producing the country’s next Olympic gold medallist.
The last Olympic medal for India in tennis was achieved in 1996 by the iconic Leander Paes.
This initiative will allow young athletes from Telangana to participate in state-ranking tournaments, enhancing their match experience and improving their rankings. Players ranked at the top as of November 15 each year will qualify for the prestigious RTG Scholarship, which offers Rs 75,000 worth of tennis equipment.
TSTA and TPL will collaboratively conduct state-ranking tournaments across the U-10, U-12, and U-14 categories, establishing a structured pathway for young tennis enthusiasts. These competitions will be held in various cities throughout Telangana.
Commenting on this groundbreaking initiative, K R Raman, president of TSTA, stated, “At TSTA, our ambition has always been to elevate tennis as the leading sport in Telangana and to place the state on the global tennis map. Partnering with TPL enables us to provide a structured growth path for young talents, ensuring that players from all regions of Telangana can shine on both national and international platforms.”
Kunal Thakkur, co-founder of TPL, shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration, “We are excited to welcome TSTA as the first South Indian state association to join this initiative. Together, we aspire to create a lasting influence on the tennis scene in Telangana.”
Mrunal Jain, co-founder of TPL, emphasized the significance of this partnership, “This collaboration reflects the shared vision of TPL and TSTA to guarantee continuous development for young tennis players. The state ranking tournaments and RTG program will offer valuable exposure to emerging athletes and strengthen a robust pipeline for the future.”
