Delhi, July 31 (NationPress) Purani Dilli 6 has officially named wicket-keeper batter Vansh Bedi as their captain for the upcoming second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), which is scheduled to commence at the renowned Arun Jaitley Stadium on August 2.
Following a commendable performance in the 2024 edition where the team reached the semi-finals, Purani Dilli 6 is determined to pursue another title this season. Vansh showcased his skills impressively during last year's domestic season and was signed by Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2025, although he had to withdraw due to an injury.
“Vansh embodies youthfulness, vibrancy, and possesses a keen cricketing intellect. We firmly believe that under his leadership, Purani Dilli 6 will not only engage in bold cricket but also exemplify the spirit of Purani Delhi on the field,” stated Akash Nangia, the owner of Purani Dilli 6.
The team will commence their DPL 2025 journey on August 5 against Outer Delhi Warriors, followed by a crucial match against West Delhi Lions on August 7.
On August 8, they will face New Delhi Tigers in a night showdown. Their last group stage match is set for August 27, where they will compete against South Delhi Superstarz in yet another prime-time event.
This second season will feature eight men's teams and four women's teams, culminating with the men's final on August 31. The men's tournament will consist of 40 matches, featuring fierce competition among the eight teams.
The teams are categorized into two groups of four, where each team will play a total of 10 league matches. They will compete against the other three teams in their group twice (home and away) in a double round-robin format, while facing each of the four teams from the opposing group once in a single round-robin format.
The top four teams will advance to the playoffs, with the first and second-placed teams competing in Qualifier 1, where the winner will secure a direct entry into the final. The third and fourth-placed teams will battle in the Eliminator, with the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
The winner of the Eliminator will then challenge the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2, where the victor will grab the last spot in the final. A reserve day for the men's final is set for September 1.
