Hyderabad, April 7 (NationPress) Following the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffering their fourth straight defeat, losing to Gujarat Titans (GT) by seven wickets in IPL 2025, head coach Daniel Vettori recognized that the team has not adequately assessed and respected the playing conditions as a batting unit.
During the match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH's aggressive batting lineup did not meet expectations, finishing at 152/8 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, GT, the champions of IPL 2022, only required 16.4 overs to chase down the target and secure their victory.
“We understand that our style can be effective, but we must respect the conditions and conduct a thorough assessment, which is something we have not accomplished. Additionally, we need to acknowledge the skill of the opposing teams' bowlers, as they have been planning well against our top three batters, and we have struggled to execute our plans at times,” Vettori stated.
He further mentioned that SRH aimed for a score between 160-170 but fell short by 20 runs. “We recognized that the pitch was challenging, and our assessment indicated that 160-170 would be a competitive score, which was our expectation at the start of the day.
“We believed that if our players could settle in, form partnerships, and then attack towards the end, we would be close to that target. We required 20 more runs to create pressure and perform well with the ball. However, it was clear that GT fully understood what was needed,” Vettori added.
Currently positioned at the bottom of the points table, SRH is set to face Punjab Kings on April 12. Vettori concluded by stating that SRH is acutely aware of the need to elevate their performance across all three areas of the game.
“We have not managed to perform cohesively in any match. Reflecting on last year, our skills enabled us to score high and then defend the totals. However, we have struggled to compile significant scores due to various factors.
“The positive aspect of the IPL is the quick turnaround, providing chances for improvement and standout individual performances. There remains some confidence within the batting group, but it is the collective effort that must rise to the occasion now,” he concluded.
