New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) Following a four-wicket setback against the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, head coach Daniel Vettori has emphasized the necessity for his batters to enhance their ability to adjust to varying conditions presented in the tournament.
At the Wankhede Stadium, SRH struggled to modify their batting strategy for the challenging pitch conditions, managing only 162/5. With MI successfully chasing down the target in the 19th over, SRH remains winless in IPL 2025 matches played outside of Hyderabad.
"I believe that no one truly has control over their surface. There’s a bit of luck involved when facing wickets that don’t favor us. However, we must take more responsibility to adapt ourselves," Vettori stated.
"We are aware that such conditions arise in Chennai, and occasionally in Ahemdabad. So, we cannot expect to traverse the country and always encounter favorable pitches. The onus is on us to understand this. I think we managed to adapt relatively well, but it was exceptionally challenging during those middle stages," he added.
He also commended the MI bowling attack for their disciplined performance that kept SRH under pressure, particularly their use of slower deliveries. “I’ve acknowledged Mumbai for their excellent bowling throughout that innings. Overall, it was a tough batting surface, and a score of 180 could have been competitive against Mumbai, but the way they maneuvered through the middle period, especially their six-hitting capability, shifted the game away from us,” Vettori noted.
"Mumbai interpreted the conditions extraordinarily well, and after the initial overs, they heavily relied on their slower balls, which proved effective mainly due to their execution. They have outstanding bowlers like Bumrah, Trent Boult, and even Hardik Pandya who excel at this," he continued.
"We concluded the innings decently, but the middle overs, where they bowled superbly, restricted our scoring opportunities. I felt we attempted to counter it effectively but credit goes to them for their bowling prowess," he concluded.
SRH will enjoy a six-day interval before hosting MI at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, on April 23.
