As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 approaches following a record-setting 2024 season, fans had hoped for explosive performances once again in this 18th edition. However, teams have not found success with this aggressive strategy. When asked if the bowlers adapting is causing the high-risk tactics to backfire on batsmen, the former West Indies all-rounder responded.
“It’s a blend of factors. For us as bowlers, particularly through our discussions and the message I convey, it’s essential to be more tactical. To endure now, one must outsmart the batter and show courage. As I mentioned, you will observe this with our bowling unit.
“In individual matches, some teams may excel, and that’s fine, but I believe the batsmen are not valuing their wicket anymore. They tend to play recklessly, assuming the pitches are conducive. Numerous teams have batted longer, thus diminishing the significance of batsmanship.”
“That’s the reason we’re witnessing a decline in scores: bowlers are becoming more astute and leveraging their strengths effectively, while batsmen no longer appreciate the importance of their wicket. So, I suppose it’s a combination of both,” Bravo remarked during the pre-game press conference.
There has also been considerable discussion regarding the home-ground advantage, or the lack thereof, this season. Bravo offered a distinctive perspective by stating that it is not the pitches that provide the edge when playing at home, but rather the support from the fans.
“Regardless of whether the pitch is slow or turning, my message to the players remains: make the needed evaluations, adjust accordingly, and adapt to the conditions. What truly grants us home advantage is the fans.
“I believe that factors more than the condition of the pitch. I won’t comment extensively on the pitches, but once the fans are engaged and cheering us on, it makes a significant impact,” he added.
Both KKR and SRH, who were finalists in the 2024 edition, have only managed to secure one win from their first three matches this season and will look to get their campaign back on track starting Thursday.
