Mumbai, Dec 30 (NationPress) With just 10 days remaining until the commencement of its fourth edition, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals are facing a significant blow as seasoned Australian all-rounders Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland have opted out of the forthcoming Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026.

Both players have cited personal reasons for their decision to withdraw from the league, which is set to kick off on January 9.

In response to Perry's exit, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has announced the inclusion of Sayali Satghare as her replacement. Satghare, who has represented Mumbai in domestic tournaments and was previously part of the Gujarat Giants squad, will join RCB at her reserve price of INR 30 lakh.

The three-time finalists, Delhi Capitals, have brought in fellow Australian Alana King as a substitute for Sutherland. The skilled leg-spinner, who played for UP Warriorz in the last season, boasts 27 T20I appearances, amassing 27 wickets. King will be joining DC at a reserve price of INR 60 lakh.

On another note, left-arm medium pacer Tara Norris has been selected for the USA national team to participate in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, scheduled in Nepal from January 18 to February 1, 2026. Consequently, she will not be available for the Women's Premier League 2026.

To fill Norris's spot, UP Warriorz has signed uncapped Australian all-rounder Charli Knott as her replacement, with a reserve price of INR 10 lakh.

The fourth edition of the Women's Premier League is slated to run from January 9 to February 5, 2026, utilizing the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara as its two venues. The opening match will be held at DY Patil Stadium, with the final taking place in Vadodara on February 5.

In the inaugural match of this season, two-time champions Mumbai Indians Women will face off against the 2024 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the DY Patil Stadium.

Point of View

I believe it is crucial to address the implications of these withdrawals on the Women's Premier League. While personal reasons are respected, the timing raises questions about team dynamics and competition. The league must adapt quickly to maintain its excitement and integrity as new players step in.
