New Delhi, Aug 14 (NationPress) Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh considers the draw in Manchester as the most significant moment of India’s recent Test series against England, which concluded with a 2-2 tie.
On a flat pitch at Old Trafford, India managed to bat through the last five sessions, resulting in a draw for the fourth Test against England. Captain Shubman Gill set the tone with a steady 103, while KL Rahul contributed 90 off 230 balls.
Both spin-bowling all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar achieved centuries, forming a remarkable partnership of 203 runs for the fifth wicket on the final day, as India concluded their innings at 425/4. They notably declined England’s offer for a handshake on a draw while both batters were in the 80s.
“The moment in the tournament was when India drew the Test series (game in Manchester). I've not seen, for a long time, Washington and Jadeja getting hundreds and drawing a Test match, which is significant,” Yuvraj stated in a video shared on the ICC’s Instagram account.
Yuvraj, who played 40 Tests for India and scored three centuries, commended the batting performances of veteran Jadeja and young Sundar, who achieved his first Test century. “Certainly, Jadeja has been a stalwart. However, for a young talent like Washington Sundar to perform like that is truly remarkable. I’m very proud of them,” he added.
India eventually leveled the five-match series at 2-2 with a nail-biting six-run win at The Oval, but Yuvraj emphasized that the drawn match at Old Trafford was crucial in building the visitors’ confidence. “I genuinely feel it’s a win for us. Even though it’s a drawn series, for a young team, it’s challenging to perform well in England and establish oneself.”
