Jaipur, Dec 16 (NationPress) As part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter registry in Rajasthan, the Election Department has unveiled the draft list of voters whose names have been expunged.

According to official statistics, a staggering 41.85 lakh voters have been removed from the electoral rolls for various reasons.

The draft voter list has been made accessible on the official website of the Election Department, enabling residents to check if their names are still on the list.

In addition to the draft list, the Election Department has issued separate lists of voters categorized as absent, permanently relocated, deceased, and those already registered elsewhere.

The draft findings indicate that 29.6 lakh voters (5.43 percent) were noted as absent or shifted, 8.75 lakh (1.6 percent) were reported deceased, and 3.44 lakh voters (0.63 percent) were found registered in multiple locations. Names of voters registered in more than one place will be retained at only one location.

The Election Department has clarified that legitimate voters whose names were deleted can request re-inclusion during the claims and objections period from December 17, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan stated that individual notices will not be dispatched to voters listed for removal. However, any eligible voter who thinks their name has been incorrectly removed may submit a claim with supporting documents for restoration. Approximately 11 lakh voters were not mapped during the SIR process, including those not covered in the previous SIR and those who did not submit the necessary documents earlier. Notices will be sent to these voters at the SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) level.

Upon receiving a notice, affected voters can provide the required certificates and apply for re-inclusion in the voter list. The draft voter list has been compiled across 41 districts, 199 Assembly constituencies, and 61,136 polling stations.

To promote transparency, the list will also be shared with all recognized political parties, allowing them to submit objections or suggestions within the designated timeframe. New voters are encouraged to apply now.

The Election Commission has also initiated the process for adding new names to the voter list. All district collectors have been tasked with raising awareness so that citizens can verify their voter status. Individuals whose names are absent can apply using Form-6. Young citizens reaching the age of 18 by April 1, July 1, or October 1, 2026, are also eligible to apply in advance.

In accordance with SIR regulations, no voter's name will be permanently removed without a hearing. A written order must be issued by the relevant SDM or Tehsildar. Voters have the right to appeal first to the Collector and subsequently to the Chief Electoral Officer.

The Election Department emphasized that this initiative aims to ensure the voter list is accurate and current, thus safeguarding the voting rights of all eligible citizens.

During Rajasthan’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, enumeration forms were collected from 5.04 crore voters (92.34 percent).

Point of View

The recent developments in Rajasthan concerning the voter list revisions highlight the importance of maintaining an accurate electoral registry. This initiative, while significant, must also ensure that eligible voters are not unjustly disenfranchised. The Election Department's efforts to update the rolls is commendable, but transparency and accessibility must remain paramount to foster trust in the electoral process.
