Vijayawada, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, declared on Monday that a 58-foot statue of Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu will soon be erected in Amaravati, to be known as the Statue of Sacrifice.
A dedicated park covering 6.5 acres will also be established to honor Potti Sriramulu, who passed away in 1952 after a 56-day hunger strike in Madras, advocating for a separate state for the Telugu population.
Additional memorials for Potti Sriramulu will be constructed in Chennai and Nellore.
This announcement was made during a ceremony commemorating Potti Sriramulu's death anniversary, where the Chief Minister also recognized the contributions of his family.
Naidu mentioned that the NDA government is observing this day as a day of sacrifice.
A decision has been made to hold year-long celebrations for Potti Sriramulu starting from March 16, 2026.
Former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao had previously acknowledged Potti Sriramulu's sacrifices by establishing the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. The TDP government later designated Nellore district as Potti Sriramulu Nellore district. Naidu emphasized that Potti Sriramulu's legacy transcends caste, as he dedicated his life to the recognition of the entire Telugu community.
The Chief Minister expressed ongoing efforts to make Andhra Pradesh the top state in development. According to a recent RBI report, the state ranks first in fruit and fish production. He stated that Andhra Pradesh has successfully attracted investments amounting to Rs 21 lakh crore in just 18 months.
Naidu affirmed that Amaravati is now officially recognized as the capital. He accused certain individuals of politicizing the issue concerning medical colleges, noting that a parliamentary committee has endorsed the PPP model for development. He clarified that while medical colleges will be established in partnership with the private sector, they will still be governed by the state, similar to roads and other infrastructure.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government's commitment to equitable development across all regions while promoting decentralization.
He emphasized the importance of supporting entrepreneurial initiatives within families and ensuring equal opportunities for all through the P4 system.
