Chandigarh, Dec 14 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has taken a stand against the Congress party after a vehicle was reportedly intercepted in Batala, allegedly transporting liquor, ladies' suits, weapons, cartridges, and party flags during the ongoing Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections across Punjab.
Punjab AAP General Secretary Baltej Pannu addressed the media, stating that this incident serves as a stark illustration of the desperation, panic, and anti-democratic attitude of the Congress, which appears to have conceded defeat before the election results are even announced.
Pannu highlighted that opposition parties had previously attempted to mislead the public by falsely asserting that AAP’s nomination papers were rejected.
“With the final list of candidates now available, it’s evident that candidates from all political factions are participating in the elections, revealing that traditional parties like the Congress are reverting to their old, shameful tactics of distributing liquor, clothes, and money to sway voters,” he commented.
In reference to the incident, Pannu noted that AAP MLA from Batala and Punjab AAP Working President Sherry Kalsi managed to stop a vehicle allegedly involved in distributing liquor and ladies' suits to manipulate voters.
“Even more alarming is the discovery of weapons, cartridges, and Congress flags in the same vehicle. This clearly indicates how far the Congress is willing to go to secure electoral victories,” he added.
Pannu condemned these actions as “open goondaism,” asserting that such behaviors have no place in a democratic society.
“The Congress continues to believe it can mislead and buy the approval of the people of Punjab with liquor and clothes. This is merely a reflection of their frustration and fear of impending defeat,” he said.
Pannu assured that AAP would vehemently oppose such hooliganism within the state. “The Mann government will not tolerate this kind of lawlessness. The people of Punjab are alert and informed; they will not barter their votes for liquor or clothing,” he concluded.
